A dual misunderstanding informs much of the ongoing conflict:
Zionists, especially Revisionist (i.e. radical) Zionists believe all Arabs are interchangeable, that the Arabs of Palestine would simply disappear into Jordan, or Egypt, or Lebanon, or Syria, etc., with no difficulty.
Proponents of a unitary, bi-national state seem to believe the Jews of Israel would permit themselves to become a minority in someone else's country.
Because, tragically, successive Israeli administrations have permitted the growth of settlements in the West Bank, any realistic two-state solution has likely been damaged beyond repair. So what is left for Hamas, et al to strive for?
