Absolutely correct on all points. There certainly was a great deal of tension over strategies FDR & the Joint Chiefs believed were intended more to preserve the Empire than win the war as expeditiously as possible, e.g. Churchill's "soft underbelly" idea (nothing soft about it, of course). I sometimes wonder whether or not Churchill believed the rhetoric he used to rally a nation would also, by itself, preserve a crumbling empire, lol!
