As I ponder it more, I think you might have been in right, assuming it was Come-with-me-to-Dreamland-Kevin you were preparing to unleash on. Gentle engagement doesn't always carry the lesson.
I'm thinking of a new rule for white people: No quoting MLK, Jr in your arguments unless you can prove to a reasonable doubt that you did or would have supported him while he was alive. That leaves about one-in-five liberals & a vanishingly small proportion of conservatives.
They can & should be influenced by this thought & writing, but no more quoting to tendentious purpose.
