Growing up I learned about Nazis using murdered Jews to manufacture soap & lampshades. These things didn't actually happen (though a single lampshade was made from human skin). This was also a first-hand account told by survivors. But historians believe it derives from some who might have been told by sadistic SS men that their soap was made from human fat.

There are several other reasons to doubt the above, namely that British & French Great War propaganda accused the Germans of rendering their own war dead to make soap & explosives. Never happened.

Revealing the truth doesn't belittle anyone's experience, or traditional history.

I don't know what happened wrt the alligator hunting issue, but I don't think anyone's an asshole for respectfully questioning it.

And, incidentally, we're told slaves were the most valuable commodity in the old south, so of course slave owners would keep careful track of babies born to their slaves.
