I absolutely agree that Fedex ought to have shut down that particular area to all deliveries pending investigation. Based on Gibson's account it seems more like a robbery attempt than anything else. So the first assumption would be that any Fedex/UPS/etc delivery person might be at risk for repetition.

That being said, the underlying assumption here is that minority hiring notwithstanding, Gibson's supervisors were white. We don't know that. E.g, on Thursday, April 28 1992, the worst day of the LA Rodney King Riots, I was making deliveries for Cardinal Express. A company that catered mainly to the film industry. It was small enough that one of the co-owners also worked in the office & did some dispatch. After I ran afoul of some looters, who beat the crap out of me & broke my nose, he finally agreed to let me & the rest of the drivers go home for the day. Next day, Friday, we're back at it. I called in (we did pick ups, not necessarily coming into the office till later), this owner/dispatcher asked about my face. I was surprised by his apparent concern, which he had never shown before. Then it turned out he was only concerned about how I might look to customers. I quit a few days later.

The owner was black (& the looters who beat me up were white).
