I keep seeing these analogies, especially to Algeria. Algeria was, to France, part of the Great Race for Africa, where they established a colony to exploit land's resources & people's labor. It was not as though nearly all of France moved to Algeria & then France essentially vanished.

After gaining freedom I understand all but a handful of pied-noirs decamped for France (or someplace else). The Israelis have no place to go.

Nearly all of the people of Gaza didn't make a choice to fight or become targets after October 7. How could they? Even many Hamas leaders were kept in the dark until the operation was well under way. So, to say they're fighting for their homes...? No. They weren't given the opportunity to choose.
