I never mentioned antisemitism wrt the Mufti. I just wrote that he collaborated with the Nazis, which he did. I brought him up because firstly, you referenced collaboration, & secondly, after the war he seemed to continue to be the Palestinian's principal leader, & so clearly unacceptable for Jews to live in an Arab-majority land with him, or someone chosen by him, in charge. That is what Britain proposed in its final White Paper of '39, so I'm not sure what the Mufti was fighting against.

His influence among the fascist leadership is questionable—I certainly disagree that he had any role in proposing the Holocaust as Netanyahu recently claimed—but he did extract a promise from Hitler to disallow any Jewish migration to Palestine. Now, were the Nazis prepared to let Jews flee to Palestine as an alternative to shipment to the camps? Eichmann claimed so, but really, who knows. If they were, then al-Husseini has blood on his hands.

And yes, what you wrote about the Zionists escaping persecution is correct. I don't expect you or any supporter of Palestinians to agree, or say it's okay ... not at all. Tragically they betrayed the essential Zionist ideal which was simply a state for the Jewish people, ideally in Palestine. They might have returned to the UN partition borders in '48, allowed some return, & offered compensation for lands taken to those who couldn't or wouldn't live under Israeli rule. In '67, when they took the West Bank from Jordan they might have used the opportunity to support the formation of an authentic & truly sovereign Palestinian state. Everything they've done since then has been a betrayal of Zionism. Now we're seeing the ideology of Israelism & this constant refrain of security needs all the while making the ME less safe than ever.

You mentioned LEHI. They did indeed fight for the Nazis by fighting the British when Britain stood alone. I've believed Israel's moral decline coincided with electing that little thug, Yitzhak Shamir, PM. He planned the murder of Count Folk-Bernadotte, a man who had rescued Jews & other vulnerable people during the war, because Shamir & LEHI didn't care for his partition plan. Disgraceful!
