I see your point about the offense taken by some in the Jewish community.
But, in fairness, Whoopi & Roseann's comments were apples v. oranges. Jews, a majority at least, have struggled for years to avoid seeming racially distinct from whatever ethnicity assumed its place in the mainstream. Black people, of course, have struggled against simian analogies.
We can hardly take offense at Whoopi's comment, which reflected the success of our efforts here in the US, while Roseann's clearly harkened to the ugliest sort of racist comparison.
I don't think it's any surprise that American's find Nazi racial hygiene baffling. After all, they regarded Poles as an inferior race, when Polish people probably have a much higher concentration of blond-haired blue-eyed people than Germans or Austrians.
