I'm old enough to remember how controversial & unpopular King was during the last years of his life. His approval rating among whites & even white liberals was abysmal. His critique of free-market capitalism, largely ignored today when it's even more vital, gave many a pretext to call him a "Marxist" & a "rabble-rouser". Once he was dead, of course, then he was fine.
