Interesting. When I was offered a choice between detention for a week or a few moments with Board of Education® (this was junior high, c. 1969) for fighting, I always chose the latter. It was over in an instant. That's why I always smile when those on the far right call for a return to corporal punishment in schools to fix everything.
As for the rest. No. People don't live the way they do on sitcoms. Sitcom circumstances are really quite painful when applied to real life.
I was never pals with my dad, & I never sought to be my kid's pal.
And, wasn't it Lionel's grandmother (not Wheezy) who smacked him after he quipped that his father had succeeded without a college education, & in fact without any brains....?
