Interesting piece. A lot to unpack. First impressions: I'm glad you recall what a scoundrel Howard Jarvis was. Circumstances allowed him to position himself as a crusader for the elderly! But he was never more than a shill for landowners. Prop 13 did do great damage to California & its once magnificent public education system.

Re the "original sin" of white privilege, is the sin from the actions of our putative ancestors, or how it's impacted our lives & the benefits we enjoy, e.g., not being pulled over by police simply for driving, being less likely to be booked & charged if arrested for a minor offense, having a resume that seems to be from a white applicant given higher precedence, having medical personnel take our complaints of pain seriously, etc.?

I haven't finished the DuBois book yet, but it is superb.
