It's been proposed that pushing ahead on the Abraham Accords with Saudi Arabia, which Hamas's attack seems timed to derail, would do a great deal to calm tensions, provide a win for Israel, enough so to permit them to use slower, more focused measures against Hamas, e.g. Operation Wrath of God.
