It's been quite a few years since I read sci-fi at length, especially the classics such as the Foundation Trilogy, Dune, etc. Never read Card. Point being, however, I never regarded Asimov as the "father" of sci fi. That honor would go more to Jules Verne, & H.G. Wells. Mary Shelley? I don't think so. Frankenstein, the novel, might be argued to have sci-fi elements, but it's gothic horror.
