I've always understood that claps don't benefit the author, financially speaking. Only read times by members do. Am I wrong?

That said, I usually put a fairly random number of claps on something I like. I might highlight a sentence or two I agree with, but if I've nothing to add, why comment? Why waste your time & mine when an highlight sans comment implies agreement?
