I've tried both Ulysses & Gravity's Rainbow. I love both introductory sentences, but I don't understand the latter—"There comes a screaming across the sky...."? Weren't the V2s supersonic, & so only heard after they impacted? As I recall, Pynchon suggests the sound is frightening because there's no way to hide. But as I understand the V2, it would have already exploded. If you hear the sound of it, that's good. You survived.

Maybe that was the point, lol? Maybe if I had read further....
