Thanks for reading, & you bring up some good points. But I based my title & central thesis on the question: Suppose the colonies had lost the War of Independence? Would the Declaration of Independence still be correct? Would it matter? Even considering the Crown was in some ways more ethically correct: e.g. they wanted to keep their obligation to Native allies of the 30 Years' War by preventing white expansion west of the Alleghenies.

I think, when it comes to nation-building, might makes right. Or at least it has...
