Thanks for sharing this experience, Hanan. I've never been to Israel, but I recall the evacuation of Gaza & it seemed hairy as hell. I wouldn't have wanted to be in your place, even though I agree with it in principle. I recall reading that a woman from the West Bank immolated herself; Gaza settlers locked themselves in & threatened suicide; others threatened the authorities with firearms.
I've always heard that violent crime is very low in Israel because Jews don't raise their hands to one another, so that must have been particularly hard. I hope IDF soldiers & sailors at least had counseling available in the aftermath. All credit to you for doing your duty with honor & professionalism.
