The friendly fire story appear not to be true. By & large Israelis are safe in Israel. Crime is low—I think proportionally speaking, Americans are no more or less safe given the crime rate here.

That being said, Israel's failure to transfer the Palestinians in a satisfactory manner—i.e. into a secure potentially prosperous, autonomous state; with compensation for lands taken—is a poison pill damaging the entire nation. Will it survive?
