The greatest irony of all is seeing ultra-orthodox Neturei Karta at a pro/anti Iran demonstration waving Iranian or Palestinian flags (that's NK in the photo above, by the way).

But they represent a small minority of the ultra-orthodox/Hasidics who are anti-Zionists not out of self-hatred, but the belief that the secular Israeli state constitutes idolatry. They argue Jews will return to Israel only when Mosiach arrives to lead them there, rebuild the Temple & preside over world peace.

That being said, yes, there appears to be quite a lot of masochism & virtue signaling at work among white progressives. Unfortunately this feeds the far right allegation that a more progressive, authentic curriculum—as opposed to teaching nothing but blind patriotism—will inculcate white children with self-hatred.
