This piece is a reiteration of one you published either late last year or earlier this year, & which prompted many readers to suggest it must be a satire.

Obviously, & sadly, it is not.

Regarding the above: Don't you see that this proposal was already at play in the 1930s & 40s, in Central Europe? Suppose these unnamed "western nations" don't care to follow their quotas?

"Wherever do we put one million Jews?" is what an unnamed high British official (some say Palestine High Commissioner Lord Moyne, but I personally doubt this) told Joel Brand in 1944 after Brand was sent on a desperate negotiation to trade Hungarian Jews for trucks or other supplies from the Western Allies. Of course Brand's mission came to naught, as one might expect. Despite coming from Himmler himself, it was not a serious offer. Still, the assertion that no one wanted one million or so extra Hungarian Jews & so they must die, was very, tragically real.

And that is why Israel exists & will continue to exist. Jews the world over know perfectly well it's not a place of physical safety, but rather a moral safety, knowing the state won't turn on them when things get hard. That is Israel.

And what you're proposing is beyond ridiculous. If the US turned away from Israel, it would find support with another great power.

We can only hope that more Israelis come to their senses, remove Netanyahu & co. & try to embark on a conciliatory course vis a vis the Palestinians.
