This was Gay's Mike Dukakis on capital punishment moment. Remember that? Dukakis's platform opposed capital punishment (as do I), but he was asked how he would feel if someone murdered his wife, Kitty. His answer was droning & analytical & hypothetical ... no passion, no obvious feeling. It was a silly question. All he had to do was acknowledge he'd be enraged & move on. All Gay had to do was say no, it won't be tolerated. And move on. Instead she's stuck there ... at a silly hypothetical.
