Timing, I think. & luck. If Bobby Riggs had taken the match seriously & trained & not relied on the same tactics he used against Court, he would have won. I think people realized, subconsciously at least how fortunate Billie Jean King, & women's tennis had been. Also women's tennis was coming into it's own, gaining a popularity of it own. That helped.
