Very interesting choices (though I admit I haven't seen the Blues Brothers film). There's something about Bullitt—the build up; the way the bad guys are set up, the one in the glasses so ordinary looking, but exactly what you'd expect a hitman to look like if you really thought about it; Bullitt gets behind them, & they drive, & then suddenly, rubber burns & cinema would never be the same.
Funny how, as far as I know, Yates only made that one extraordinary film in an otherwise adequate, journeyman career. Sort of like Schaffner w/Patton or even Michael Curtiz w/Casablanca.
