Very interesting perspective. I do have a few issues, however. Israel didn't leave Palestine unilaterally in '05. They left Gaza, one of its smallest portions. They maintain control over Gaza airspace, ports & gates. One example: After the Gaza greenhouses were rebuilt with grants from abroad millions of dollars worth of their produce was left to rot on the side of highways because Israel wouldn't permit them to be trucked out of Gaza.

That being said, Gaza, I'm told, boasted 12 universities & some 32 hospitals prior to the current war. So neither is it an "open air concentration camp".

The bulk of Palestine, however, remains dotted with Israeli settlements, of which there are far too many for Israel to evacuate, ever. Palestinians have watched this process of settlement building, under Labor & Likud governments, understanding what it means for any true, autonomous future state.

I also note in Harris's piece, he, like many, segues from "Hamas" to the "Palestinians" as though the two are interchangeable, & thus one can argue the "Palestinians" seek destruction of the Jewish people.

Because Hamas's methods aren't exactly democratic it's difficult to know how much support they have among the people of Gaza & Palestinians in general. Clearly, however, they put the people of Gaza on the firing line without their knowledge or consent in order to win world public opinion. So how anyone can support such behavior is beyond me.

I will definitely follow up on Amir Pars....
