Victoria's full of crap & your husband's chickenshit for avoiding the family table. I don't know what math your daughter's studying right now, but so few people actually use the math they learn in school that by the time their children study it they've forgotten most of the mechanics of doing problems. Doesn't matter if you took & aced the same class with the same instructor.

Just unbelievable that you'd let her guilt her this way. I was born during Ike's administration & parents of my generation didn't feel the least compunction to do their kids' homework, or even offer much help. Their own schooling was often disrupted by depression or war. But, either way, it wasn't their responsibility. It was ours. The students. I remember fighting math. Especially algebra. I felt as though I was beating my head against a stone bulwark ... until one night I finally got it. The basic concept finally clarified to me. I don't know that anyone explaining it in whatever manner would have made it that clear to me.

Tell your daughter that learning math is her responsibility now. If she really needs more help than school provides I'm sure there are other tutors. Maybe she just needs a leg up the way I did.

But don't let her guilt you.
