Well, I think it's only fair to for historians to regard the impact of colonial enterprises on indigenous populations in contemporary evaluations.

Tel Aviv built from swampland, true. But in other regions when Jewish settlers from Europe bought lands from far-off owners, effendis, they often displaced the fellahin who had worked those lands for generations with their own people. What they did was entirely understandable, but so was the growing resentment of the displaced.

There were numerous anti-Jewish riots & violence, sure. But overall, indigenous opposition to the demographic changes the growing Jewish settlement brought to Palestine was completely understandable. As was the Jews' need to find a secure homeland.

So, who was wrong here?
