This is what, the fourth or fifth piece you've put here denouncing Jefferson; it's also the fourth time you've proclaimed your rage at anyone who has the temerity to challenge you, however mildly.

What's the point of that?

How does being furious further a discussion?

As it happens, we know Jefferson owned Sally Hemings, brought her to France, made her pregnant at age 16; she refused to return w/o negotiating freedom for their kids; their kids were freed.

That is what we know.

All of the rest is speculation & interpretation.

My issue with your essays is they rely on straw man arguments. Americans don't worship Jefferson. We know Jefferson owned slaves, & we know it was a violent contradiction to the principles he espoused. As with other characters in history his stock rises & falls.

I recall during the Bicentennial articles criticizing George Washington's generalship appeared everywhere. In the past few decades popular biographies of John Adams & Alexander Hamilton have caused them to eclipse Jefferson in the popular mind.

George Washington: slave owner

Abraham Lincoln: his administration starved the Dakota, forcing them to war in '62

FDR: interned Japanese-Americans during WWII

Mahatma Gandhi: slept naked with underage girls

Mother Theresa: created a hostile work environment

Martin Luther King, Jr, serial adulterer

Margaret Sanger: eugenicist

US Grant: dipso

Winston Churchill: white supremacist

And so on.
