White cis-gender men are certainly at the top of the social pyramind, no doubt. But rape, assault, murder, etc., aren't limited to us. When we speak of being afraid to walk alone at night (among other circumstances), what are we really asking here? For an end to crime?
That will never happen.
You have to be pretty closeted not to have experienced fear being out in some place or time. Women experience this, especially, I get that. I'm a large, unpleasant-looking man. I don't fear sexual assault, but I have felt the fear of being targeted for other crimes.
Imagine for a moment a society where women are respected, paid & treated as equals. Rape becomes rare. Still, some women, & men, will be targets of criminals—muggers, addicts, killers. Women will still be perceived as easier marks to a criminal seeking an easier score.
Does this make any sense?
What I'm saying is that instead of not-all-men, there will always be some-men, i.e. muggers, junkies, serial killers, enough perhaps to make being out alone riskier than it should be.
