Why would "hot" & friendly/intelligent be mutually exclusive? In his case, so far as I know, it wasn't.

Even for me, the proto-incel while in high school, it never occured to me that the hottest girls were drawn to assholes, but rather equally hot guys, most of whom, in my experience, were decent enough blokes.
