With good reason. There is no proof Jefferson had sexual relations with Sally Hemmings when she was 14. She went to Europe mainly as a companion to Polly (Jefferson's daughter). It's possible she didn't even live with Jefferson for their first two years there.
Of course, she was also free.
She didn't have to return to the US with Jefferson. She negotiated a return to slavery in exchange for privileges & eventual freedom for their children.
Of course it's true there was a power imbalance between them. But to imply Hemmings had zero agency in order to maximize her alleged victimization robs her of her humanity. She was more than a victim of an evil pedophiliac slaver who also happened to be one of the founders of this country.
