Yeah. Rashid Khalidi called Israel's standing in the world its single most valuable asset. Repeatedly tarnished in the past few decades, it's on the verge of being irrevocably destroyed. And there's no reason to believe Israeli leadership will make the slightest attempt to recover it.
Revisionist Zionists didn't kid themselves about what they were doing; they faced the colonial enterprise straight on. Their delusion lay in the assumption that the Arabs of Palestine would simply disappear into the wider Arab world, leaving this one small corner for them. Plainly that did not happen. They rolled snake eyes.
Why Israel's current leadership can't or won't see that remains a mystery as tragic as it is enduring.
