You know, that's a good point: the issue of accuracy. The Army Air Force entered the war believing Norden bombsights were the cat's pajamas. Experience showed they weren't that accurate after all. The army also had only one base, in northern Italy, that could reach Auschwitz, & I'm not sure what missions/areas took priority. Critics assume it's nothing to send a few bombers hither & yon, but I suspect the reality was more complicated. Especially as the liberation of Poland was in the Red Army's purview.
